ENGINEERING CONSIDERATIONS
Define the system before the solution.
Integration before programming
Define the I/O list, control narrative and alarm cause-and-effect before changing PLC logic. Existing controllers, communication protocols and backup availability determine the retrofit approach.
Operator clarity
Agree alarm priorities, acknowledgement behaviour and screen layouts with the operators. An HMI should make operating state and required action understandable.
Change control
Plan backups, staged testing and the service window. Existing interlocks and safe states must be understood before live modifications.
